Description
‘Blue Stocking’ is a beebalm variety that is noted for its unusual violet-blue flowers. Tubular, two-lipped, violet-blue flowers are borne in dense, globular, terminal heads atop stiff square stems clad with serrate, ovate to lanceolate, dark green leaves (3-6” long). Long summer bloom period. Flowers are attractive to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, particularly when massed. Flowers, stems and leaves are aromatic. Some monardas are commonly called beebalm in reference to a prior use of the leaves as a balm for bee stings.
