Description
The Ginkgo, also known as Maidenhair Tree, is actually a deciduous conifer that is the only surviving member of a group of ancient plants believed to have inhabited the earth up to 150 million years ago. It features distinctive, two-lobed, fan-shaped green leaves with diverging veins. They are often called Maidenhair Trees in reference to the resemblance of their fan-shaped leaves to maidenhair fern leaflets. Autumn Gold is a male selection, with symmetrical, upright branching and brilliant golden-yellow fall color which can persist for several weeks. When the leaves do drop, they drop rapidly forming a golden carpet around the tree.
