An old-fashioned classic, the Common Lilac has intensely fragrant lavender-purple flowers in spring. Upright growth when young, branching out to a more broadly rounded form with age. Situate in full sun for best bloom. Flowers do well cut in a vase.
Prefers average, moist, well-drained soils that are rich in organic matter.
Large, vase-shaped. Height: 8-15 feet. Spread: 6-12 feet.
Green leaves turn yellow in fall.
