Description

The Bat Flower (Tacca chantrieri) is an exotic plant with flowers that mimic a bat in flight. Flowers are deep purple, nearly black, with ruffled wings and long, hanging filaments. Usually blooms in Spring and can last until early autumn. Large, attractive green leaves surround the bloom Be sure to keep out of direct sunlight in a medium to bright, indirect light location. The soil should be kept slightly moist at all times, but do not allow the soil to become soggy. A rapidly growing plant, yearly repotting is needed since the Bat Flower does not like to be root bound. The Bat Flower may go dormant for fall and winter months, in which case it should be kept dry until Spring when it breaks dormancy again.
