Description
These mums are not your ordinary fall-flowering, winter-hardy chrysanthemums! They are easy to grow and prolific blooming. They may have hundreds of buds ready to open!
Perfectly rounded plant that is attractive in the garden and also make bright-hued displays in containers, hanging baskets and window baskets.
Somewhat hardy – will over-winter in many areas with the proper care and heavy mulching:
After the top is killed by the frost, cut back to 3 inches above the ground and mulch when the stubble is dry.
These mums can be perennial in zone 5. However, when late season varieties are put in the ground just before they bloom, there is little time to establish the strong root system required to endure through the winter months. Thus, many people grow mums as annual plants. If you want to maintain your Belgian Mum as a garden perennial, it’s best to plant it a little earlier, water and fertilize it regularly up until flowering begins, and finally lay several inches of mulch after the flowering is complete and the winter months are nearing.
Easy care – plant in full sun, in well-drained soil, and avoid oversaturation.
Zones 5 (with heavy mulch) to 9 (see above)
