Slightly fragrant, white, fringe-like flowers appear in June and give way to clusters of olive-like fruits which ripen to a dark, bluish black in late summer. Berries are a food source for birds and wildlife.
Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil but prefers moist, fertile soils. Intolerant of prolonged dry conditions.
Wide, green, spear-shaped leaves turn yellow in fall.
