Description
Ficus benjamina, known as Weeping Fig, has arching branches and long pointed leaves. Relatively slow growing, it is well-suited for indoor environments. However, they do not like being disturbed, so try not to move them around much. Disturbing them in this manner, or having them near a draft (such as a heat register vent) will cause them to shed leaves as they try to adapt to their new situation. Finding a nice, bright location with space for it to grow over the years would be most ideal. Weeping Figs have shiny green leaves that can be variegated with white or yellow depending on their variety. Allow the top surface of the soil to become dry to the touch between waterings, and do not allow the plant to sit in water. Ficus benjamina is particularly good at filtering formaldehyde, xylene and toluene.
